Hugh Keith
BA, PGCE, MITI – language teacher, translator and interpreter
Hugh studied modern languages at Oxford University and then trained as a teacher in York. After working at a German university and a school in London he joined Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, where he taught classes in translation and interpreting and set up the university’s commercial language service.
In 1992 he relocated to Stuttgart, Germany where he built up a business as a freelance translator and interpreter working for customers in Germany, Belgium, France and Eastern Europe. He continued to run this from his Edinburgh base from the mid-90s onwards. Over the past fifteen years he has also organised workshops for interpreters and translators in Edinburgh and Cologne.
Hugh is a member of the UK Institute of Translation and Interpreting and has served as a member of the ITI Conference Committee and chairman of the ITI Scottish Group. He has appeared as a speaker at various conferences including the ITI Annual Conference and the BDÜ Congress.
